Union Home Minister Amit Shah to visit Assam on the occasion of completion of one year of the BJP government under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

According to sources Shah will visit Guwahati on a two-day tour on May 9 and 10.

On Monday morning (May 9), the home minister will meet with the BSF and then inaugurate the super-specialty hospital of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in the evening.

After Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened 7 cancer care hospitals in various districts during his visit to the state on April 28, officials claimed the effort will be a stepping stone toward turning Assam into a health hub of South Asia.

As per sources, the new facility of GMCH will include a cardiothoracic and neuroscience centre (CNC), which will include four departments: cardiology, cardiothoracic, neurology and neurosurgery.

Meanwhile, on May 10, Shah will attend an event where President of India Ram Nath Kovind would award the President’s Colours Award to the Assam Police.

Furthermore, Home Minister will attend a party meeting at Sankardev Kalashetra, where he will announce the numerous Guwahati projects.

The Cardiothoracic and Neuroscience Centre (CNC) was built at a cost of Rs 200 crore, with the state government bearing the majority of the expense, but with financial aid from the Centre. Better facilities were needed for these four departments, where a big number of patients come for treatment on a regular basis, according to the official.

Shah will also inaugurate the new deputy commissioner’s and police commissioner’s office buildings in Guwahati, Chief Minister stated.

Shah will also inaugurate work on the national forensic institute in Guwahati, Sarma added.
